Irina Zaretska Confirmed for World Games 2025 in Chengdu

The Organizing Committee of the 2025 World Games, set to take place in Chengdu, China, from August 7-17, has confirmed the participation of Azerbaijan's karate star Irina Zaretska.

According to Idman.biz, the official list of athletes qualified for various sports has been published , and Zaretska, a key member of Azerbaijan's national karate team, is among the participants.

Zaretska, competing in the 68 kg category, earned her qualification through her dominant performance at the World Karate Championships in Budapest last year. There, she secured her third consecutive world title, further solidifying her reputation as one of the top athletes in her discipline. Zaretska’s road to victory included a finals showdown with Switzerland's Elena Quirici, and both athletes, along with world championship bronze medalist Seiko Zephaniah of Indonesia, are set to compete in Chengdu next year.

Azerbaijan will be represented in three types of gymnastics at the World Games. Tumbling (Mikhail Malkin), acrobatics (Raziya Seyidli - Agasif Rahimov mixed doubles, Murad Rafiyev - Daniel Abbasov men's pair, Riad Safarov, Rasul Seyidli, Abdullah Al-Mashaykhi and Seymur Jafarov) and aerobics (Madina Mustafayeva - Vladimir Dolmatov mixed couple).
