"I couldn't participate in competitions for a long time."
This was stated by Asiman Gurbanli (+84 kg), a karateka representing Azerbaijan, in an interview with İdman.biz. He shared his impressions after winning a gold medal at the "Belarus Open-2024" international tournament held in Minsk.
Qurbanlı mentioned that due to a knee injury, he was unable to compete in the European Championship earlier this year: "I was gradually training despite my injury. I faced several challenges that I was trying to overcome. This was my first competition after a long time. In the final, I faced a strong opponent - the European runner-up and a bronze medalist from the World Championship. Given that it had been a while since I fought, the matches were tough. However, I managed to pull through. I fight to win in every competition I enter. I believed I could handle it because I'm not just a gift for any athlete. I returned home victorious, marking the beginning of my future plans."
He also outlined his upcoming goals: "I will prepare for the tournament in Moscow, followed by participation in the national championship at the end of the year. Most importantly, I have league competitions scheduled for next year since these tournaments will provide licenses for the World Championship."
