Farid Gayibov: "As time goes by, requirements and goals also change"

"In the last half of the year, we were witnesses and participants of historical moments and memorable successes both in the field of youth and sports. The month of June was also rich in terms of significant events and successes."

Idman.biz reports, it was said by the Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov while evaluating the month of June.

He said in the "Minister's Point of View" that the meeting with the Azerbaijani athletes and their coaches, who successfully represented Azerbaijan in the continental and world championships and prestigious international competitions last month, and their coaches was interesting: "We listened to the impressions of our athletes about the competitions they participated in, the victories they won, and we exchanged ideas with the coaches of the national teams regarding their preparations for future competitions. The next Olympics, for which the whole world has been preparing for 4 years and waiting impatiently, is about to start. The Paris Olympics are less than a month away. Azerbaijani athletes continued their license fight in June. Yaylagul Ramazanova in archery, Maryam Sheikhalizadekhangah and Ramil Valizade in swimming, and the names of 9 judokas who won a license to Paris were announced. Thus, for the first time in the history of sports, Azerbaijan will be represented in 15 sports. Although we have experienced Olympians in the team of 48 athletes, most of Azerbaijani athletes going to Paris will be participating in the Olympics for the first time. I congratulate all the athletes and their coaches, and the federations they represent, who won a license for the Games, which will last from July 26 to August 11, and wish them success."

He emphasized that the activity continues in order to increase mass participation in sports and attract the population to a healthy lifestyle: "This time, we managed to expand the scale of another mass event. As a continuation of the work done to increase the interest of the population, especially children and young people, in swimming, which is one of the most useful sports for health, we held the final stage of the "Swimming for All" project, which we started in December 2023 among the member and observer countries of the Organization of Turkic States. The main goal of the 2-day competition in Baku is to spread, develop, increase the number of water sports and promote a healthy lifestyle. I thank the Azerbaijan Swimming Federation for cooperation in organizing the tournament."

The minister also reminded that Baku, which was chosen as the Sports Capital of the world for 2026, hosted a number of prestigious sports events in June: "The fact that Azerbaijani chovgan team became the world champion at the chovgan world championship held in capital of Azerbaijan was doubly gratifying for the fans of this sport. "Baku Open 2024" International Chess Festival also brought together more than 300 chess players from different countries of the world in capital of Azerbaijan. We also had a bilateral meeting with FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich, who is visiting Azerbaijan within the framework of the Chess Festival. In recent years, we jointly discussed the work done in the direction of the development of chess in Azerbaijan, the achievements and perspectives of mutual cooperation. In June, Azerbaijan was represented in a number of multi-sport competitions. Azerbaijani athletes representing Azerbaijan successfully performed in 11 sports at the BRICS Sports Games Kazan 2024 international multi-sport games in Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, and in 17 sports at the VIII International Sports Games Children of Asia held in Yakutsk, Sakha Republic. It is difficult to imagine sports competitions without fans and volunteers. In recent years, the activity of the Sports Volunteers and Fans Public Union, which combines these two fields, is commendable. Recently, the organization that submitted its two-year report held a re-election conference. I wish the organization success in its further activities."

Gayibov said that over time, requirements and goals change: "We have more important activities waiting for us in the second half of 2024, which is responsible and important in terms of both youth policy and sports events. For now, the focus is on the Paris Olympics, which will start this month. Thanks to the reforms carried out together with the federations and the right strategy, the stage of obtaining licenses was successfully completed. Continuation of success leads to the top. In order for this to be sustainable, we have to work non-stop, and direct energy in the right direction with experience."
