The flag bearers of the Azerbaijan national team at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games will perform this duty for the first time.
Per Idman.biz, the Azerbaijani boxer Mahammad Abdullayev and judoka Gultaj Mammadaliyeva, who will carry the tricolor flag at the opening ceremony of the Olympics, which will begin at 21:30 Baku time on July 26, did not gain confidence in the previous competitions.
In general, no athlete of Azerbaijan has won the flag twice. In the previous 7 Olympics, 8 of our representatives performed this task.
In each competition until Tokyo 2020, two of our athletes advanced with the flag at the opening ceremony in the capital of Japan. They represented 5 different sports.
Judokas are entrusted with the task of flag bearers. It was the tatami masters who performed this work in three of the seven Olympics. Gultaj will carry the flag at the opening ceremony as our 4th judoka. Muhammad will go down in history as the second boxer. Thus, poker in judo and double in boxing will become official. Apart from these two sports, we had two flag bearers in wrestling, weightlifting, and taekwondo.
The results of the flag-bearers in that Olympics are not at all pleasing. The only gain of the previous eight athletes is a medal. The only exception to this is our freestyle wrestler. In addition, our wrestler Namig Abdullayev, who carried the flag in Sydney 2000 as the silver medalist of Atlanta 1996, won the title of champion in Australia.
The other seven flag-bearers longed for serious success. If Teymur Mammadov and Rustam Orujov took the 5th place, one step away from the medal, the rest of our athletes were far away from the awards.
