"Gultaj Mammadaliyeva will prove herself at the Olympics as the flag bearer of Azerbaijan."
Rashad Mammadov, head coach of the Azerbaijan women's judo team, told Idman.biz.
He evaluated the team's preparation for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games: "The training camp was held at a high level. We trained at the European Judo Union camp in Valencia and Benidorm. The final part of the preparation was in Baku. Leyla Aliyeva (48 kg) and Gultaj Mammadaliyeva (52 kg) have completed the entire scope of the work and are ready to start."
Mammadov also commented on Gultaj's flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the Olympics. He noted that the standard-bearer status will give additional motivation to Gultac: "I believe that she will speak his mind in Paris. He has a rather important mission. But there is no doubt that Gultaj will overcome it."
The head coach also emphasized that judokas will be flag bearers in some other national teams: "The Croatian flag will be carried by the multiple world champion Barbara Matic. Idalis Ortiz, the winner of the full set of Olympic awards, was chosen as the flag bearer of the Cuban team.
According to the coach, both Leyla and Gultaj are psychologically ready for the Olympics, and this factor can help them in Paris.
