Paris 2024: Cape Verde and Azerbaijan flag bearers chosen from boxers

Muhammad Abdullayev, who will be the flag bearer of the Azerbaijan national team at the opening ceremony of Paris 2024 today, is not the only boxer who has won this trust.

As Idman.biz reports, 12 leather glove makers will wave the flags of 11 countries at the event, which will start at 22:00 Baku time.

The point is that both flag bearers of one national team will be boxers. In the Philippines, this trust was given to Carlo Paalam and Nesthy Petecio.

Another interesting point connects Azerbaijan and Cape Verde. This country will be represented by a male boxer and a female judoka like us at the opening ceremony. They are Daniel Varela de Pina and Djamila Silva. In Azerbaijan, along with Mohammad, Gultaj Mammadaliyeva will perform as the flag bearer. Azerbaijan will take the 16th place in the parade, and Cape Verde will take the 38th place.

Cindy Ngamba will be the first boxer at the opening ceremony. The athlete will carry the flag of the Olympics as a member of the Refugee Olympic Team, which will pass the parade second.

There are also famous faces in the list of boxer flag bearers. The winner of Tokyo 2020, double world champion Busenaz Sürmeneli of Turkiye, world and double European gold medalist Stanimira Petrova will go in front of Bulgaria. The flags of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan were entrusted to last year's world champions Aslanbek Shymbergenov and Abdumalik Khalokov.

The Olympics will continue until August 11.
