Heydarov laid claim to gold: "I want to win the Olympic gold after 16 years"

"I want to bring the Olympic gold to Azerbaijan after 16 years."

As Idman.biz reports, this was said by Azerbaijani judoka Hidayat Heydarov (-73 kg).

Heydarov expressed his thoughts about the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games in the video presented by the European Judo Union (EJU). Hidayat noted that Elnur Mammadli won the last championship for Azerbaijan at the Olympics in Beijing in 2008: "I would like to win the Olympics to be held in Paris. Then I will take part in the Summer Games again and get on the podium again."

He also spoke about the importance of preparing under the leadership of Elnur Mammadli: "It gives me a lot. When you enter the hall, you feel supported. During the competitions, I listen to Mammadli's comments from the podium. It gives good motivation and helps a lot."

Heydarov will start the Olympics today. His debut bout will be against will be Tohar Butbul (Israel).
