Azerbaijan's record in the history of the Olympics was repeated.
Idman.biz reports that our Olympians have already won two gold medals in Paris 2024.
Judokas Hidayat Heydarov (73 kg) and Zelym Kotsoiev (100 kg) became champions in Paris. Azerbaijan's winning 2 gold medals in the same Olympics is a repeat of the historical record.
This is the 3rd time. The Azerbaijani national anthem was played twice in Sydney 2000 and London 2012. In Australia, freestyle wrestler Namig Abdullayev and pole vaulter Zemfira Meftahatdinova, and in Great Britain, freestyle wrestlers Sharif Sharifov and Togrul Askerov advanced to the top of the podium.
The absolute record in London 2012 was also repeated in Paris 2024. It is about winning 2 gold medals in one sport. 12 years ago, freestyle wrestling, and this time our judo team made a historic achievement.
Zelym was also the 5th Azerbaijani athlete who became the world, European and Olympic champion during his career. Until then, the shooter Zemfira Meftahatdinova, the freestyle wrestler Sharif Sharifov, the taekwondo player Radik Isayev and the judoka Hidayat Heydarov managed to do it. Judo was the first sport with two representatives on this list.
Hidayat also achieved the "hat trick" in Paris.
