The Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games will end today for the Azerbaijani national team in athletics.
Hanna Skydan, the only Azerbaijani representative in athletics, will complete her fight to clinch medals after successfully passing the qualifying round held two days ago, as per Idman.biz.
Skydan has already secured her place in the top 12. This is the best result of female athletes in the Olympics in the history of Azerbaijani athletics. She has renewed his own record. Anna took 13th place in Rio 8 years ago.
Athletics considered the queen of sports, has been an invariable part of the Olympic programs since Athens 1896. The Azerbaijani national team has also been represented in athletics at all Games since their debut in Atlanta 1996.
Skydan's performance in Paris 2024 is the jubilee - 25th participation of Azerbaijani athletes in this type of Olympics. In Athens 2004, a record number of 5 athletes participated in the competition. This number was 4 in Atlanta-1996, Sydney 2000 and Rio 2016, 3 in London 2012, and only 2 in Beijing-2008 and Tokyo 2020.
Although Azerbaijan’s athletics team, which went to Paris with only one athlete, made an unpleasant record in terms of quantity, it is rich in quality records. In addition to being our best female athlete, Skydan also went down in history as our first representative to participate in three Olympics in this sport.
Anna, who is 6th in the qualifying round, is a contender for medals. He is also a candidate to go down in history as the winner of our first Olympic medal in athletics. Skydan will set a record even if he shows his result in the classification.
He should take one of the first 8 places for the best Azerbaijani athlete in the history of the Olympics. Currently, the record belongs to Hayle Ibrahimov. In London 2012, he was not only advanced to the finals of 5000 m, he even entered the Top-10 and took the 9th place.
Of course, Hanna's goal is not Hayley's record, but the podium. She will fight for a historic result today at 21:57 Baku time.
In general, 19 representatives of the Prince of Sports participated in the Olympics. Anna 3, Teymur Gasimov, Sergey Bochkov, Hayle Ibrahimov, and Nazim Babayev made 2 attempts each, and 14 other athletes made one attempt.
3 of our athletes took part in the shootout. The 5th attempt is realized in Paris.
Only in the triple jump, more - 6 tests took place. In the 100 m run, we also had 5 attempts. There were three 5000 m, 200 m, and 800 m races each. Two other athletes of ours were Olympians in marathons and sports walking.
Skydan also broke Dmitriy Marshin’s 13th record in hammer throw.
