The taekwondo competitions at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris have started today.
Gashim Magomedov, the sole representative of the Azerbaijan national team, made his debut at 58 kg, per Idman.biz.

Gashim Magomedov made his debut against Jack Woolley (Ireland) in the round of 16 an won with a score of 2:0. Magomedov faced Spaniard Adrian Vicente in his second fight. The Azerbaijani taekwondo player moved into the semifinals by winning with a score of 2:0.
He challenged Vito Dell'Aquila (Italy) on the way to the final. The match with the Olympic champion was successful for Gashim. Azerbaijan representative won with a score of 2:0 and qualified for the final.
He faced South Korean Park Tae-joon for the flyweight title. Unfortunately, Magomedov was injured in the first round and could not continue the fight in the second round. The athlete claimed silver medal at the Olympics.
Magomedov is a gold and bronze medalist of the European championships.
