AKAF organizes large-scale rowing event for COP29 - PHOTO - VIDEO

The Azerbaijan Canoe and Rowing Federation (AKAF) held a large-scale rowing event in connection with the 29th session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).

According to Idman.biz, the event, held under the slogan "Row in Clean Water!", took place on November 17, National Revival Day, at the Seaside Boulevard near the Baku Rowing and Canoe Sports Club.

The event was attended by Azerbaijan's Minister of Youth and Sports, Farid Gayibov, Deputy Minister Mariana Vasileva, and high-profile international guests, including:
- Jean-Christophe Rolland, President of World Rowing Federation (FISA)
- Thomas Konietzko, President of the International Canoe Federation
- Claudio Schermi, President of the International Dragon Boat Federation
- Wang Shi, Honorary President of the Asian Rowing Federation and Global Waterway Rowing Federation
- Ken Lee, representative of the Global Waterway Rowing Federation

More than 50 foreign guests visiting Azerbaijan for COP29 were also present.

Highlights of the Event:

- Presentations on Environmental Initiatives: Schoolchildren from Shanghai, China, shared their views on environmental protection and climate change with attendees.
- Official Opening Ceremony: AKAF Secretary General Farhad Aliyev welcomed guests, followed by remarks from Jean-Christophe Rolland, Thomas Konietzko, and Claudio Schermi, who praised Azerbaijan's excellent organization of COP29-related events. Minister Farid Gayibov officially inaugurated the "Row in Clean Water!" initiative, with commemorative gifts exchanged.
- Signing of a Memorandum: AKAF signed a memorandum with Deep Dive, the largest water sports service provider in China, managing 22 water sports centers across 13 cities.
- Rowing Event: Over 50 rowing boats, featuring local athletes and honorary guests, took to the water. Among the participants was Jean-Christophe Rolland, the Sydney 2000 Olympic champion.

The rowing initiative aimed to promote environmental awareness, protect water resources, and foster international cooperation and solidarity.
