The reason for the non-participation of the national teams of Azerbaijan and Turkiye in the World Sambo Championship held in the capital of Armenia, Yerevan on November 10-12, was reflected in the mass media with false information.
Idman.biz reports that the Azerbaijan Sambo Federation issued a statement in this regard.
It was reported that the press release of Karen Giloyan, the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, to the local press is full of lies and slander: “Azerbaijan Sambo Federation has not been disqualified by the International Sambo Federation (FIAS). A clear example of this is the official letter we sent to FIAS on October 18. It is shown that the national flag of Azerbaijan was burned at the opening ceremony of the European Weightlifting Championship held in Yerevan in April. We have informed that we will not participate in the competition considering this action, which does not fit into sports manners, and the safety of our athletes cannot be protected.”
The statement noted that another factor indicating the non-disqualification of Azerbaijani athletes is the participation of our sambo wrestlers in the World Championship among cadets and adults, held in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, on October 6-8: "We call on the Armenian mass media not to spread false information, and to clarify any statements made through international institutions."
