"Even though we preferred local coaches last season, we could not reach the set goal."
Vugar Mammadov, president of the National Aviation Academy (NAA) consisting of female volleyball players, told Idman.biz.
The head of the 1-year-old club evaluated the preparations for the new season. He also explained the reason for parting ways with the head coach Vugar Aliyev: "Attracting high-performance professional players in a short time is not an easy task, but the quality of training is one of the main factors. Professionalism in world volleyball is constantly increasing. From this point of view, it is necessary to work and develop with specialists who currently has the power. One of our goals is to increase the professionalism of local volleyball players, which I think we can effectively achieve with the help of foreign coaches. For this reason, near the end of the last season, we started examining the biographies of many professionals. Among them, we offered the position of head coach to the Italian Giovanni Torchio and we received approval."
Mammadov also announced his goals for the new season. He said that his main desire is to be at least among the winners: "Although it is not an easy task for a newly formed club, we already have enough experience and a technical base with good conditions to achieve the goal."
Mammadov also commented on the bronze medal won by MAA in the women's beach volleyball national championship: "We have already won the first prize in the Azerbaijan Championship. Vera Klimovich from Belarus took part in this competition along with local players. She will also be in our team in classic volleyball in the new season. I am sure that we will be able to fight for the championship this season."
National Aviation Academy finished the last season in 5th place with 14 points.
