Eritrea’s football federation withdrew its team from 2026 World Cup qualifying.
Idman.biz reports that all of Eritrea’s matches have been cancelled owing to fears that players will flee.
The Eritrean National Football Federation (ENFF) could not get permission from the Ministry of Sports and Culture to allow the national team. The reason why is that the players would attempt to seek political asylum during trips abroad. Although the national team has been preparing for the qualifying round for two months, the players have been informed that they will not participate in the tournament.
It should be noted that the Eritrean national team has stopped playing in international games since 2020.
