Former Azerbaijan head coach: "This is not a good situation for Greco-Roman wrestling and will be brought to account "

"If there is no result, there is nothing to value."

Elchin Jafarov, the former head coach of the Azerbaijani national team in Greco-Roman wrestling, told Idman.biz.

He commented on the performance of Azerbaijan’s "classics" who failed to win a license at the European Olympic Qualifying Tournament held in Baku. An experienced specialist said that our team fought far below its potential: "I think the coaching staff will discuss the reason for such a situation in the near future. It's true that you can't win every race. But in all cases, 1-2 licenses should have been obtained in the tournament you hosted. This is not a good situation for Greco-Roman wrestling and it will be a report. Our wrestlers did not fight. High-level preparation took place, training camps were held. They are provided with everything. If they were hungry, sleepless, out of shape, without pay, and they acted like that, I would say that there are many reasons. But no one expected such an ending."

Jafarov found it difficult to predict the last qualification tournament that will give a license to the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games: "I can't say anything more about the competition that will take place in Istanbul. Because my expectations in Baku did not come true. Yesterday, our wrestlers made concession. As if their opponents had to give them points. Of course, it doesn't happen like that. Wrestlers who won the license got the victory while injured and bleeding."

It should be noted that there are currently 2 licenses for the Greco-Roman wrestling team of Azerbaijan.
