This was stated by Khasay Hasanli (77 kg), who won a bronze medal at the U23 World Wrestling Championship held in Tirana, Albania.
A two-time European champion in this age category and a one-time silver medalist at the World Championship, Hasanli explained the reasons for securing third place this time: “I fell seriously ill before the competition. I had a high fever, and additionally, I developed an infection in my tooth. Those who watched my previous competitions would not be satisfied with my performance in Tirana. The level I showed here was not characteristic of Khasay Hasanli. I had never wrestled so poorly in any competition before. I felt weakness and fatigue while on the mat. This was an unfortunate incident that caught up with me just 10 days before the tournament.”
Hasanli mentioned that without these issues, he could have won a gold medal: “I believed I would become the champion. My consolation matches for third place also did not go well. I secured the bronze medal thanks to luck and experience.”
Hasanli defeated Temuri Orjonikidze (Georgia) with a score of 7-1 in the bronze medal match.
