The Azerbaijani national wrestling team has made significant strides in the overall medal rankings of world wrestling championships, now positioned 13th globally.
This advancement follows the recent successes of our Greco-Roman wrestlers at the championship held in Tirana, Albania, where Eldaniz Azizli (55 kg), Nihat Mammadli (63 kg), and Ulvu Ganizade (72 kg) clinched gold medals, reports Idman.biz.
With these victories, Azerbaijan's total count of gold medals at world championships has reached 22, tying with both Germany and Finland in that regard. However, Azerbaijan surpasses these nations in the number of silver medals, with Azerbaijani wrestlers having secured 34 silver medals compared to Germany's 28 and Finland's 26. This achievement has cemented Azerbaijan's place as the 13th ranked nation in this prestigious competition.
The medal rankings date back to 1904, with the Soviet Union holding the top spot, followed by Japan and Russia in second and third places, respectively.
