Ulvu Ganizade: "I didn’t expect to become a World Champion"

"The World Championship was incredibly challenging for me," said Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestler Ulvu Ganizade (72 kg) upon returning home and addressing journalists at the airport.

Ganizade, who claimed the title at the World Championship for non-Olympic categories in Tirana, Albania, shared insights about his journey to the top and his future aspirations: “Shortly before the championship, I fell ill and had a high fever for days. I didn’t have much hope of becoming a world champion. But thankfully, I managed to achieve it. I didn’t let down the trust of my coaches and the leadership of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation. I aim to repeat this success in future competitions. Currently, I am both European and World Champion, and I hope to experience this joy again, for a second or even a third time.”

In the final, Ganizade defeated France’s Ibrahim Ghanem with a score of 3:2, securing the championship title.
