Freestyle wrestlers conclude World Championship without medals

The World Wrestling Championship for non-Olympic weight categories concluded today in Tirana, Albania, and Azerbaijan’s freestyle wrestlers finished the event without medals.

Idman.biz reports that three Azerbaijani wrestlers competed in the consolation rounds but were unable to secure podium finishes.

Nureddin Novruzov: After defeating Peter Hammer (Costa Rica) 14-4 in the first consolation match, Novruzov went on to beat Jozef Silva (Puerto Rico) 17-6. However, in the bronze medal match, he lost 2-8 to Tsogbadrakh Tseveensuren
(Mongolia).

Orkhan Abasov: Faced Suldkhuu Olonbayar (Mongolia) but lost narrowly with a score of 4-5, ending his journey in the championship.

92 kg
Abubakr Abakarov competed against David Taylor (USA) but was defeated with a score of 1-3.

Azerbaijan’s Greco-Roman wrestlers did achieve success, with Eldaniz Azizli (55 kg), Nihat Mammadli (63 kg), and Ulvu Ganizade (72 kg) each winning a gold medal in the championship.
