Azerbaijan solidifies its status as leading wrestling country at World Championships

The Wrestling World Championship has concluded, revealing the champions in non-Olympic weight categories held in Tirana, Albania.

Over four days, the competition awarded 12 sets of medals, with Azerbaijan's wrestling team claiming three golds, securing the second spot in the overall medal standings, per Idman.biz.

This remarkable performance positions Azerbaijan just behind Japan, solidifying its status as "number one" in Europe.

All three gold medals were earned by Greco-Roman wrestlers: Eldaniz Azizli (55 kg), Nihat Mammadli (63 kg), and Ulvu Ganizade (72 kg), showcasing the strength of Azerbaijan in this discipline.

Kazakhstan rounded out the medal podium in third place, while a total of 48 medals were distributed among 19 countries and neutral-status athletes.

In team standings for specific wrestling styles, Azerbaijan led in Greco-Roman, while Georgia topped in freestyle, and Japan excelled in women’s wrestling.
